In the United States, audio recordings thought to be dangerous to kids have been flagged with parental advisory warning stickers since 1987. Schools and libraries have a history of banning books deemed to be obscene or otherwise damaging to children’s impressionable minds.

Although the bible (first published in the US in 1663), contains numerous references to disturbing, violent and hateful acts, it has been able to circumvent this treatment. In many parts of the country, “The Catcher in the Rye” is still considered to be too risque, “Origin of Species” is too controversial, but the “good book” is good fer our kids readin’.
